While many companies across the U.S. shifted to remote work in 2020, Seattle became the top market for tech firms looking for large office spaces. The Seattle region outpaced Manhattan in office space used by top tech companies by 85 percent, with a startling 3.4 million square feet dedicated to 14 of the country’s largest tech companies including Facebook, Amazon and Google.
A majority of new leases for these companies have been in nearby areas like Redmond, Kirkland and Bellevue. The region’s combination of emerging technology sectors such as the commercial space industry as well as the multiple universities and community college dedicated toward filling the workforce are key factors in this area’s continued growth.
“We have the key pillars of the ecosystem: the companies, the universities, the skilled work force and a compelling place to live…The region is poised for even more growth.” Said, Stan Shull, managing director of Alliance Velocity, an aerospace advisory firm in the Seattle region.
