The University of Washington’s Institute for Protein Design (IPD) is an innovation factory creating a culture of collaboration among software engineers, drug development experts and other scientists.
Since its opening a decade ago, the IPD has expanded to nearly 200 researchers using protein-design software for new drugs, vaccines and enzymes. The IPD is also successfully moving research beyond the institution, spinning out eight startups including industrial enzyme company Arzeda and drug development startup Cyrus Biotechnology.
