The National Institute of Health has awarded the Allen Institute $173M in funding for a variety of brain research initiatives.
The nonprofit will get five grants worth $173M, with $100M going to the primary initiative which will focus on mapping brain cells, or “the brain equivalent of the Human Genome Project.” The organization is searching for 22 employees to work on the initiatives.
“We want those applications to go well beyond our building,” said Luke Esposito, senior director of scientific operations at the Allen Institute said. “Part of our mission is to disseminate information for the community use, so we put things out there and put our findings on our website so that anybody can use them.”
