PATH has launched a major clinical trial in Nairobi to explore how large language models can support frontline health workers in diagnosing and treating patients more accurately.
The study, involving 9,000 participants across multiple African countries, aims to evaluate the real-world safety and effectiveness of AI in primary care settings. “This trial marks an important milestone for our health sector,” said Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, Kenya’s cabinet Secretary of Health. “AI has the potential to bridge health care gaps, particularly in underserved regions.”
Headquartered in Seattle, PATH aims to provide the rigorous evidence that has been missing from digital healthcare initiatives in low- and middle-income countries with this study.
