Bill Gates and partners launched a $1 million global competition to accelerate Alzheimer’s research by applying agentic AI, a form of artificial intelligence that can reason and act autonomously.
Organized by the Alzheimer’s Disease Data Initiative, the effort aims to mine research data for overlooked insights and will make the winning AI tool publicly available to researchers worldwide. “AI has the potential to revolutionize the pace and scale of dementia research — providing an opportunity we cannot afford to miss out on, especially with so many lives at risk,” said Niranjan Bose, interim executive director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Data Initiative and managing director for health and life sciences at Gates Ventures.
Based in Seattle, the competition underscores Washington’s role as a global leader where life sciences and technology converge to drive scientific breakthroughs.
