Fred Hutch Cancer Center and UW Medicine researchers Holly Harris and Elizabeth Swisher, MD each received $200,000 from Rivkin Center and Andy Hill Cancer Research Endowment (CARE) Fund to pursue research into ovarian cancer prevention.
According to the National Cancer Institute, ovarian cancer is the eighth most common type of cancer in US women, but the fifth leading cause of cancer death. Symptoms can be subtle, often leading to late diagnoses after the cancer has spread beyond the ovary (or fallopian tube) to the lymph nodes or other organs.
