The University of Washington broke ground on a new $231.1M Chemistry Sciences Building in Seattle that will provide laboratories for research and instruction in areas including human health, sustainable chemistry, advanced materials and quantum science. The five-story facility is expected to open in 2029.
Washington state is providing $129M toward construction, with the remaining funding coming from UW and private donations. UW and state leaders said the new facility will support workforce training and industry collaboration while helping attract and retain talented students and researchers.
The new facility will expand opportunities for students and researchers to develop their skills and pursue scientific careers in Washington.
