The latest Economic Impact Report by the trade association Life Science Washington shows that the Washington life science industry supports more than 100,000 jobs statewide with an annual economic impact of $35.5 billion.
The industry has a substantial presence on the Eastside, with more than 300 life science facilities and organizations. The state’s employment outpaced national life science job growth with a 33.6% increase from 2015-2021. The state’s growth includes the rise of companies working on next-generation cancer therapies and tackling some of the toughest global health challenges.
“The industry has solidified its position as a top life science cluster in the country and set the foundation for companies — from early stage start-ups to large industry players — to build, thrive and expand in Washington state,” said Richard Fabian, CEO of Fujifilm SonoSite and Life Science Washington board chair.
