Trusting the Science: Medical Innovation, Misinformation, & New Data Frontiers in the Life Sciences

9:00 am - 1:00 pm PDT

Join us on October 7, 2024 for a roundtable event focused on protecting and growing the biomedical research and life sciences sector in the Northwest. Even though the pace of drug discovery has accelerated over the past decade, clinical research funding is in decline and public misinformation is on the rise, which presents a national crisis. With a vibrant life science industry cluster in the Northwest, the decline in public support for various aspects of new medical discovery is incredibly concerning to NWABR and its member institutions.

This half-day session of panel dialogues seeks to engage the public, policymakers, and key stakeholders about the foundational inputs required to support the biomedical research community. Our goal is to catalyze regional and national advocacy efforts to support the priorities identified throughout the day.

Topics to be covered:

  1. Fostering public trust in the science of new discovery – Lessons learned from the COVID pandemic, combatting misinformation, and the efficacy and safety and existing test regimens
  1. From Idea to Market: The roadmap of a drug discovery – IP from bench science to costs to trial, promoting global access, and the irreplaceability of animal models
  1. New Data Frontiers – Clinical trial diversity, biosecurity and data protection, and the future of open-source in a less trusting world
