The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is seeking design approval for a full-block campus expansion in South Lake Union. The Seattle-based nonprofit has filed plans to build an oncology research center and office building between 810 Yale Ave. N. and 1305 Ward St., city records show. The new facility would be partially funded by a $78 million donation to Fred Hutch by Stuart and Molly Sloan announced last year.

Previously, Fred Hutch said the facility would be 390,000-square feet, though plans show it could reach between 400,000 and 760,000 square feet, filling a site currently used for parking. The project may be built in phases. The expected project cost is unclear. At the time it was announced, the donation from Stuart Sloan, owner of the University Village shopping center, and Molly Sloan, a Fred Hutch board advisor, was the largest ever made to the research center.
