The Allen Institute for Cell Science contributed frozen stem cells to a pioneering space mission launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9. Led by Cedars-Sinai, the project marked the first attempt to grow heart and brain organoids in microgravity. Astronauts cultivated the samples on the ISS for a month before their return to Earth, aiming to advance treatments for ALS, Parkinson’s, and cardiovascular disease.
