Swiss Eye-Care Giant Acquires Poulsbo-Based LumiThera

Alcon has acquired Poulsbo-based LumiThera, a medical device company developing treatments for age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

The company developed the Valeda Light Delivery System, which is authorized by the FDA to treat patients with early to intermediate dry AMD. Clark Tedford, CEO of LumiThera, said, “Our device provides a non-invasive treatment for dry AMD patients that can improve vision and address the disease earlier, before permanent vision loss.”

This acquisition highlights the region’s strength in ophthalmic technology and further cements Seattle’s role in next-generation retinal device innovation.
