UW Leads in Global Rankings Across Life Sciences and AI

In the newest U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities rankings, the University of Washington placed No. 12 globally and No. 3 among U.S. public universities, out of more than 2,250 institutions across 100+ countries. UW’s subject-area rankings highlight particular strength in life sciences, AI, and computer science. 

UW broke into the global top 10 in six disciplines, led by Public, Environmental & Occupational Health at No. 4 and Molecular Biology & Genetics at No. 6. 

Across related fields, UW continues to show consistent global leadership with multiple programs ranked among the top institutions worldwide: 

  • Biology & Biochemistry: Global No. 7 (U.S. No. 5) 
  • Immunology: Global No. 13 (U.S. No. 4) 
  • Cell Biology: Global No. 19 (U.S. No. 9) 
  • Biotechnology & Applied Microbiology: Global No. 37 (U.S. No. 4) 
  • Oncology: Global No. 28 (U.S. No. 13) 

UW also ranks among global leaders in computing and AI: 

  • Computer Science: Global No. 28 (U.S. No. 7) 
  • Artificial Intelligence: Global No. 58 (U.S. No. 8) 

These rankings reinforce UW’s global leadership and its role in helping build Washington’s position as a top 10 life sciences cluster
