The AI Toolkit for Life Sciences — Platforms, Applications, and Impact

Andrew is an AI Strategy Lead in Portfolio & Innovation at Pfizer.  His work is focused on identifying, building, testing, implementing and scaling AI-enabled tools that support clinical study simulation, design, and optimization.  His objective for this technology is to use it as a force multiplier and decision support for drug development professionals, allowing them to spend more time on the most important elements of their work, helping bring better medicines to patients, faster.

Andrew has held leadership roles in cross-functional drug development for more than two decades.  During that time, he has worked end-to-end, from discovery to post-marketing, on large and small molecules, vaccines, diagnostics, real world data and vector control.  He has had the privilege of working with extraordinary teams at Amgen, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seagen and Pfizer.  Throughout, Andrew has kept one foot firmly planted in the realm of digital innovation, seeking to weave emergent technology into existing methods.

Scott Boyken is co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer of Outpace Bio. During his postdoc in the Baker lab at the University of Washington, he pioneered new computational methods to design the first de novo proteins with programmable interaction specificity and moving parts, creating switches and logic gates capable of controlling new biological functions in cells. This work resulted in multiple high-impact publications and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Award at the Scientific Interface. Based on this technology, he co-founded Lyell Immunopharma where he led a team creating new technologies to improve efficacy and safety for anti-cancer T cell therapies. Scott earned his PhD from Iowa State University where he was an NSF IGERT Fellow and his dissertation research combined biochemical assays with computational modeling to study kinase-mediated immune cell signaling. In 2021, Scott was selected for Endpoints 20 under 40. He has authored more than 30 scientific publications and is an inventor on 16 published patent families.

Jeff is Chief Data Officer, Vice President, and J Orin Edson Foundation Chair of Biostatistics at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Previously, he was a professor of Biostatistics and Oncology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and co-director of the Johns Hopkins Data Science Lab. His group develops statistical methods, software, data resources, and data analyses that help people make sense of massive-scale genomic and biomedical data. As the co-director of the Johns Hopkins Data Science Lab he helped to develop massive online open programs that have enrolled more than 8 million individuals and partnered with community-based non-profits to use data science education for economic and public health development. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and a recipient of the Mortimer Spiegelman Award and Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies Presidential Award.
